Dynamic BOM

What is Dynamic BOM?

Consumption norms from actual production conditions – directly into SAP process orders

Dynamic BOM by InnoForce calculates raw material, electricity, steam and other component requirements from actual production parameters and updates component quantities in SAP process orders.

Consumption norms are determined by outside temperature, production output, units in operation or other relevant production indicators. Calculations use maintained norm matrices or formula position values received from a balancing program.

Dynamic BOM runs as a side-by-side SAP extension on SAP BTP. It connects changing production conditions with planned component quantities in SAP and reduces the need for manual corrections.

Dynamic BOM – production parameters driving component consumption calculations.

Why is Dynamic BOM needed?

 When raw material or energy requirements depend on operating conditions, a single fixed bill of materials (BOM) norm is not enough.

Manual component quantity corrections take time, while calculation rules often remain in separate spreadsheets or individual expertise. This makes it harder to apply norms consistently and explain why a particular quantity was assigned to an order.

Dynamic BOM brings calculation rules into one place, validates parameter values and applies the appropriate norms to selected ERP process orders. A test run allows users to review proposed changes before writing them.

Who is the solution for?

The solution is designed for manufacturers that:

  • manage production orders in their ERP system;
  • calculate raw material or energy requirements from changing operating conditions;
  • apply different norms depending on temperature, production output or units in operation;
  • manually correct component quantities in orders;
  • want to maintain consumption calculation rules centrally;
  • need to trace the parameters and norms behind calculated quantities.

Dynamic BOM is particularly relevant to process manufacturing, such as the chemical industry. Production users, master data specialists and consumption analysts can use the solution in their daily work.

How does the solution work?

Dynamic BOM connects daily production parameters with component consumption norms and SAP process orders.

Process:

  1. Relevant production parameters and their value ranges are defined.
  2. Norm matrices are created, assigning a consumption norm to each combination of parameter ranges.
  3. A norm matrix or balancing program formula position is assigned to a product component.
  4. Parameter values linked to the balancing program arrive automatically; authorised users enter and confirm the remaining values.
  5. The user selects SAP process orders and can perform a test recalculation.
  6. Parameter values for each order’s planned start date determine the norm and the resulting component quantity.
  7. After confirmation, component quantities are written to SAP through standard OData APIs.
  8. The report shows recalculation results, the norms applied and the parameter values usedThe result is a consistent and auditable investment governance process with a controlled handover from investment decision to project execution.
